Armed men have attacked the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Lokoja, Kogi State. They disrupted a COVID-19 press briefing scheduled for Wednesday morning.
The media chat was to demand a COVID-19 screening centre in Kogi.
Speakers were also expected to comment on the challenges health workers face amid the coronavirus pandemic.
However, the Kogi State Police Command on Wednesday confirmed the attack at the Federal Medical Centre Lokoja by unknown gunmen.

Sources said the hoodlums went to the administrative block of the FMC, destroyed part of the building, carted away laptops and other valuable items.
It was gathered that they also went to the revenue unit of the hospital, attacked the staff on duty and carted away an undisclosed sum of money as well as laptops.
The hoodlums who were fully armed blocked the entrance of the center to prevent people from going into the premises of the center.
According to sources, the hoodlums were armed with cutlasses, knives and other dangerous weapons during the attack.
Confirming the incident, the Kogi State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Williams Aya said the situation is under control as State Police Commissioner, CP Ayuba Edi has drafted his men to the center.

According to him, some group of people protested at the Federal Medical Center on Wednesday morning adding that the management of the federal medical center is yet to officially report the incident to the command.
Anaedoonline.com however gathered that the federal medical center Lokoja have stopped admitting out patients into the hospital as a result of the outbreak of COVid-19.
All effort to speak with the management of the federal medical center proved abortive as they were not ready to speak with the press.
On arrival, the gunmen shot sporadically and assaulted anyone in sight.
The assailants carted away some laboratory equipment, laptops, doctors’ phones and other documents. FMC lokoja is within the precinct of Kogi Government House in Lokoja.
