Controversy has begun to trail the death of Professor Okwudili O. Udemezue, who died last Thursday at Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital, Nnewi.

Professor Okwudili O. Udemezue who hails from Umudim, Nnewi, was until his death the Provost of College of Health Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nnewi Campus, Anambra State.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Orji Udemezue, said that the family was saddened and surprised over the rumour making the rounds that their son, brother and father died of COVID-19.

According to him, the true cause of the death of Prof. Okwudili could not be ascertained, as it remains a shock to the family that three days after the death of Prof. Udemezue, the result of COVID status has not been made available to the family.

Orji Udemezue stated that the late Udemezue had asked the NAUTH authorities for the result of the Coronavirus test, before his demise, but they were not shown to him.

While frowning at the delay of the hospital in releasing the COVID-19 status of the late provost, he noted that while the family understands that coronavirus is not a taboo or death sentence, they are beginning to suspect foul play by the hospital.
