A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, has stopped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from conducting its governorship primaries in Edo State, ahead of the Edo 2020 election scheduled for September.

Anaedoonline.com reports that the Edo PDP Primary election was slated Thursday, June 25 before the Port Harcourt Division of the Federal High Court took the decision to halt the primaries.

The decision of the Port Harcourt Division of the Federal High Court to stop the PDP from conducting the Edo governorship primaries follows a suit brought before the court on Monday by one of the governorship aspirants of the PDP, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, who had vowed not to step down for Governor Godwin Obaseki.

The PDP governorship aspirant for the Edo 2020 election had insisted that Governor Obaseki did not purchase the party form or undergo screening within the time-table schedule, stressing that since Obaseki was not part of the candidates screened by the Party National Working Committee, initially before the date on the timetable lapsed, he should not be allowed to participate in the primaries.

Meanwhile, Justice E.A Obile, the presiding judge who granted the experts order, allowed the defendant to serve the parties in the suit through substituted means, in two national dailies and adjourned till 24th June, for the hearing of the summon.
