Two Abducted Siblings Rescued By Police

Two siblings aged five and ten, who were abducted from their home in Abakaliki at gunpoint. have been abducted by the Police Command in Ebonyi,  

The Command Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mrs Loveth Odah disclosed this in an interview with newsmen on Wednesday in Abakaliki.

Odah, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) alleged that the kidnappers robbed the mother of the siblings of huge amount of money before abducting her children.

She said that the kidnappers demanded N10 million ransom but had to abandon the children at a location in Afikpo South Local Government Area of the state, after a manhunt by police operatives.

Oda said the children had been reunited with their mother while efforts were being made to track down the abductors and their collaborators.

“Our men are currently in pursuit of the fleeing suspected kidnappers; also investigations are ongoing to unmask possible conspirators with a view to arresting them.

“I want to assure the public that there is no hiding place for criminals in the state and that efforts are being intensified to sustain police surveillance in every part of the state.

“We also urge the public to volunteer timely information on criminal activities in their areas to assist the police to nip crime in the bud,” Odah said.

Reports that three suspects were also in police custody over a botched abduction of a seven-month old baby in Abakaliki.

In another story, The Anambra State Police Command has rescued a 14-year-old girl allegedly kidnapped in Onitsha, Anambra State, about a month ago.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Haruna Mohammed, on Monday said three suspects, including a female, were arrested in connection with the abduction.

He said the victim was held hostage for 27 days and allegedly raped by the suspects.

Mohammed said she was rescued by the Special Anti Robbery Squad at a hideout in Ogidi.

He said the command’s Special Anti Robbery Squad trailed and arrested the suspects at their hideout in Ogidi in the Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.

He gave the names of the suspects as Onyemechi Aniobi (23) Elochukwu Okudo (25 ) and Pauline Elechi (24).

He added, “Suspects had allegedly kidnapped a 14-year-old girl in Onitsha and taken her to an undisclosed location.

“Consequently, the syndicate contacted the victim’s mother through SMS and demanded a ransom of N10 million which was later reduced after much pleading by the mother.

“Suspects equally sent a bank account number bearing one John Blessing to the victim’s parent to deposit the ransom.

“Meanwhile, the victim who was held hostage for 27 days and allegedly raped several times by the suspects was rescued by the police and taken to the hospital for medical examination.”

Mohammed said the suspects would be charged after investigations were concluded.
