A report that President Muhammadu Buhari canceled about 150 memos authorized by former Chief of Staff, the late Mallam Abba Kyari, was incorrect, the Presidency said on Tuesday night.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity Mallam Garba Shehu urged Nigerians to ignore the report in a statement.

It reads: “The attention of the Presidency has been drawn to media reports alleging that President Muhammadu Buhari has canceled a number of memos and appointments signed off by his former Chief of Staff. Not surprisingly, these reports have quoted unnamed sources.

“There is not a grain of truth in these reports and Nigerians should please ignore the insinuations behind them.

“President Buhari was duly re-elected by Nigerians in February 2019. He has not and will never cede to anyone else, that power and trust given to him by the Nigerian people.

Buhari Cancels Appointments Made By Late Abba Kyari

There is an indication that President Muhammadu Buhari may have directed his new Chief of Staff, Professor Ibrahim Agboola Gambari to cancel all appointments and approvals made by the late Chief of staff Abba Kyari without his permission.

Though no reason was given for the President’s alleged action, however, reports indicated that no less than 150 memos without the President’s authorization may have been uncovered.

President Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina acknowledged The Guardian’s SMS seeking clarification on the development but declined to confirm or refute the reports.

He simply said, “I’ve seen your text, I’ve seen your text,” and ended the chat when our Reporter reached him again minutes later via a phone call on Sunday.

Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu also did not reply to a text message seeking confirmation on the development.
