Anaedoonline.com revealed five days ago a ‘major’ Premier League side had sent testing kits to players’ homes, with a view to getting them back in action.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp had wanted his players to be given the all-clear before heading back to their Melwood HQ.

And at the club’s training ground, groups of three who have tested negative have been training, although each one had a pitch to themselves.

Only half of the club’s first team have returned, though more are expected in the next few days.

Manchester United’s stars will all have tests ahead of returning to training on Monday week while Wolves players will be back in on Monday but they will train individually.

The EFL executive committee have been canvassing teams in the two lower divisions for their views on trying to complete the campaign.

And the vast majority believe there is no chance of reaching the finishing line and want to focus on planning for next season.

EFL chairman Rick Parry will host a video conference meeting to rule out the idea of declaring the current season null and void.

Then clubs must decide how to calculate the final tables to determine promotion and relegation issues.

Liverpool’s success in the transfer market over the past five years has been down to a varied approach with big money signings and astute recruits.

The arrivals of Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker have proven to be worth every penny of their large transfer fees but Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards have also been savvy in the transfer market, enjoying success with cheap signings from relegated teams.

Few would have foreseen Andrew Robertson becoming one of the best left-backs in the world when he arrived from relegated Hull for a fee of £7m in 2017 while Xherdan Shaqiri’s £13m move from a Championship-bound Stoke City a year later proved another clever addition.
