Lots Of Nigerians Who have been fortunate to Meet General Murtala Mohammed argued that Nigeria would have been better off if he had not met his untimely death at the hands of Colonel Dimka.

The first president to doggedly fight corruption, during his reign, a lot of public officials were charged to court and fraudulent companies were shut down, those who know him say he is the straight forward president Nigeria has ever had

The former president whose head is found in the 20 naira note as a way of immortalizing the great leader was born Murtala Rabat Mohammed in November 1938 and died in February 1976 at a young age of 37 years, although his death was a well planned out one he will blame himself in the grave if he can because his death is like a mistake of some sort, how then did the General who became famous because of the role he played in the Asaba Massacre lost his life?

When General Murtala Mohammed set out for his office on 13th February 1976, he never knew that day would be his last day on Earth, Murtala Mohammed set out for work that morning in the company of his ADC in hi Mercedes Benz car, it is surprising that Murtala who is supposed to be heavily guarded as a Military head of state was left at the Mercy of the Coup plotters Dimka and his Men, Killing the Head of state was the easiest part of the coup as they met little or no resistance from Murtala Mohammed, although all must meet death but his death could have been averted that day if he had been in the company of heavily guarded Soldiers.

It is really surprising that a Sitting president will travel in the company of just one soldier knowing fully well that his regime is a Military regime and coup is the order of the day, although the Coup failed as Obasanjo later became president and Suka Dimka the Coup plotter was killed but Murtala lost his Life in a coup that is not supposed to have claimed his life

He has since been honored by successive Nigeria Government,as his head is found on the 20 Naira Note,he has a Specialist Hospital named after him in Kano state and one of the best airport in the Country Murtala Mohammed Airport has been named after him this name is definitely immortalized in the History of Nigeria.

The Car he was assassinated in is in the Nigeria Museum till this day as lots of people who had no chance to know how the car looked like back then have since gone on to the Museum to check it out
