Robbers Attack Policemen At Checkpoints In Enugu, Snatch AK47 Rifles

Policemen manning two checkpoints in Enugu State have been attacked by a six-man robbery gang, who snatched their AK-47 rifles.

The robbers were said to have operated in a tricycle stabbing three policemen and burnt a patrol vehicle, along the Enugu-Nsukka Road by Ugwuojo Nike on Tuesday.

According to a security source on Friday, the robbers wore black dresses and first attacked a police checkpoint at Ekwegbe where a policeman, identified simply as Inspector James, was stabbed in the chest.

The robbers were said to have proceeded to the next checkpoint along Enugu-Nsukka Road where the operatives of the Federal Safer Highway Patrol Team blocked the road.

The hoodlums reportedly attacked the two policemen on duty with daggers and dispossessed them of their AK-47 rifles.

The source said the Federal Safer Highway team comprised four policemen, two of whom were attacked while they were sleeping.

“The hoodlums went away with the service rifles of the two policemen and set the operational van stationed at the checkpoint ablaze,” he added.

The source further disclosed that the attacked policemen were later taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

The development was confirmed by Officer-in-Charge of Federal Safer Highway in Enugu State, SP Sam Agbons, adding that no casualty was recorded.

On the 3rd of April 2020 at about 9:45pm, following a tip off, police operatives attached to Abagana Division arrested two suspects in connection with snatching of a LEXUS 330 JEEP with Reg no: ACA 348 HM from one Uzoigwe Nkemjika of plot No 2/9 Ike Ekweremadu Avenue Enugu on the 31/3/2020 along Abagana-Eziowelle road .

The Suspects are ThankGod Akwo aged 30years of Ogidi and Onwe Hillary aged 32 years of Ebonyi State.
