The Lawmaker Representing Nnewi North in Anambra State, Hon. Nonso Smart Okafor has announced his plan to distribute thousands of free hand sanitizers, tap buckets and facemasks in markets in Nnewi, as part of steps to contain the spread of COVID 19.
The young lawmaker who made this known through a Facebook post commended the steps both the federal and state governments have taken in mitigating the life-threatening disease.
He pleaded with the public to comply with the guidelines and policies the government have put in place, to prevent and control further spread of the disease.
He advised Nnewi residents to help stop the explosion COVID 19 by constantly washing their hands with soap on running water, sanitizing their hands, avoiding crowded places and public functions, staying at home, using of face masks, gloves, and most importantly observing social distancing.
He announced that he has procured lots of sanitizers, face masks, and tap buckets which will be distributed in local markets in Nnewi, where food items and other essentials day-to-day commodities are sold.
According to him, the target markets includes Eke Amobi, Nwafor Uruagu, Eke Ama Ngwu, Orie Agbo, Afia Okpuno Egbu, Amuko, Nnofor Market, Nwaorie, Odu Igbo Foodstuffs market, Ogbo Ogwu and other selected public places.
H also announced that he had engaged the services of a number of public announcers who will traverse the length and breadth of Nnewi starting from Monday, 30th March, to create awareness about the dreaded virus.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has reported fourteen new cases of coronavirus in the country, taking the total number of infections to 111.
According to the NCDC, nine new cases were confirmed in Lagos while five new cases were confirmed in Abuja.
Of the 111 cases confirmed in the country, one death has been recorded.
NCDC said, “Fourteen new cases of #COVID-19 have been reported in Nigeria; 9 in Lagos and 5 in FCT
“As at 09:30 pm 29th March there are 111 confirmed cases of #COVID-19 reported in Nigeria with 1 death.”
