CP Abang Receives Medalists From Anambra State Command

Anambra state Commissioner of police CP John Abang, fdc has formally received the Sports men and women who represented the Command and won various medals in the recently concluded police games in Anambra State which was adjudged the best
Today 25th March 2020, Abang Presented a cash rewards to them for making the Command proud.

The CP thanked the officials for making the Command proud and enjoined them to take advantage of the sporting facilities put in place by the Anambra State Government to further enhance their skills and talents for future Sporting events.

The CP equally presented a cash reward to the medalists as an appreciation.

Meanwhile, a total number of 39 medals was won by the Anambra State Command contingent, comprising of 17 Gold,9 Silver and 13 Bronze respectively.

Anambra state under the leadership of Gov Willie Obiano made history as the first state in the southeast geopolitical zone to host the Nigeria Police games.
The 12th edition of the biennial games featured thirty one games and was hosted in seven venues across the state.
The game was themed: Promoting Community Safety through Sports, points significantly to a renewed vigour to sustain and improve the security of the state through a tech-driven and strategic-community-based policing with sports as a harmonious catalyst.
What is more, the ten days sporting fiesta , repositioned Anambra state as the gateway to the east and Light of the Nation, for greater achievements in sports as well as creating opportunity for social and economic advancements.

The event featured sporting activities across major fields between February 29th and March 7th, 2020 at various sporting facilities in Anambra State.

No less than 5,000 participants from all the Police Commands of all states of the federation and other sister security agencies participated in the  event.

The Police Games had in the past produced gallant officers that went ahead to represent Nigeria in the Olympics and other major international sporting competitions.

Notable among them was ACP Chioma Ajunwa who won a gold medal in the long jump at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, making her the only black African woman to win an Olympic gold medal in a field event.
