The Imo state House of Assembly has urged Governor Hope Uzodinma to select three hospitals out of the 27 which could not be completed by former governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha and develop them into specialist hospitals or cancer, kidney and heart related centres.

This followed a motion sponsored by the lawmaker representing Oru West state constituency, Barr. Dominic Ezerioha.

In the motion, Ezerioha said since there were no special centres for such health problems, three of those hospitals should be picked from the three zones of the state to make them special centres for life threatening health issues.

Speaking further on his motion, he described the situation of the 27 uncompleted hospitals in legal terms as res ipsa loquitur, meaning the situation speaks for itself, saying more than N25 billion was said to have been used in constructing the hospitals which were now lying waste but that a lot of money could be saved when three of these hospitals are converted to special centres to take care of life-threatening diseases.

The Oru West representative also said if his motion was adopted, it would help cut down the number of criminal hideouts in the state as the uncompleted hospitals were encouraging crimes as armed robbers and kidnappers were finding them conducive as hideouts.

He begged government to see reason to use the hospitals meaningfully for the benefit of the citizenry.
