Coronavirus: US, UK, 11 Others Banned From Entering Nigeria

The Federal Government has announced entry restrictions on travellers from the United States of America, United Kingdom, China and 10 others with over 1,000 confirmed coronavirus cases.

The Presidential Task Force on coronavirus led by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, stated this ad part of measures to safeguard the nation.

Other nations affected by the restrictions include Japan, Spain, France, Germany, Netherland, Switzerland, Norway, Italy, Iran and South Korea.

The task force said travellers from these nations would be subjected to supervised self-isolation and testing for 14 days.

Meanwhile, The Senate has asked the Federal Government to restrict large gatherings in the country as a means of preventing the spread of Coronavirus.

The Upper Chamber is also calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to address the country on the measures taken to address the crisis.

The lawmakers are also seeking the creation of testing centers to be established in every state to be funded by the Federal Government.

The Federal Ministry of Health has announced five new cases of coronavirus bringing the total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria to eight.

All five new cases had a travel history to the United Kingdom and the United States, it was reported that three of the new cases arrived from the US while the other two arrived from the United Kingdom.

Four of the cases were Nigerians including a six-week-old baby while the fifth was a foreign national who came in through the land border.

This is the first recorded case of the infection through Nigeria’s land borders. Of the five new cases, one is in Ekiti State and the other four in Lagos State.
