NPFL: Nassarawa United Player Slumped On The Field

It was a sad day for Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) as  Nassarawa United player, Chieme Martins, who slumped during Sunday’s match with Katsina United is believed to have died.

The player slumped after a collision with a Katsina United Player this afternoon.

Efforts to revive him by the medical team failed and was believed to have died before he could be taken to the hospital.

Nassarawa United are winning 3-0 with a superb heart trick from Chinedu Ohanacho when the sad event occurred.

The management of the club are yet to issue a statement but an official of the club who did not want to be mentioned confirmed the incident to newsmen.

After the incident, there was lengthy check on the player after collapsing on the pitch while the game was still at 0-0.

A team of medical personnel tried to revive Martins but the effort proved abortive and was subsequently rushed to the hospital.

Chairman Katsina Utd Prince Abdulsamad in his words said: “There was no collision, Martins just fell on ground while standing alone.” The Match ended 3-0 in favour of Nasarawa but there will be nothing to cheer about after losing one of their key players in the cold hands of death.

A video of his teammates crying surfaced online after they heard the news of his sudden death.
