Senate Confirms Nuhu’s Appointment As NCAA Boss

The Senate on Tuesday confirmed the appointment of Captain Musa Nuhu as the Director-General for the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority NCAA.

The confirmation followed the adoption of the report of the Senator Smart Adeyemi-led Committee on Aviation, which conducted Nuhu’s screening.

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), had requested the Senate’s approval through a letter dated January 7, 2020, and read at plenary.

The retired major general described Nuhu as a reputable airline pilot and aviation safety expert with over 30 years of cognate work experience in the aviation industry.

The letter had read, “In view of the strategic importance of the NCAA as the regulator of the civil aviation industry, I wish to request for the expeditious consideration and confirmation of Captain Musa Shuaibu Nuhu as the substantive Director-General of NCAA.”

Captain Musa Nuhu was appointed the new Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) by President Muhammadu Buhari. Nuhu replaces Captain Muktar Usman as the new NCAA boss.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued in Abuja by the Director, Public Affairs of Federal Ministry of Aviation, James Odaudu.

Until his appointment, Nuhu who is an airline pilot, safety expert, quality assurance lead auditor, and an artificial intelligence expert was Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the International Civil Aviation organization.

Nuhu worked at various times at the defunct Nigeria Airways, Aero Contractors and Petrowest, among other organisations. He holds an MSc. in Aviation Business from Concordia University and was at the Presidential Air Fleet as a captain and a safety officer. He also has a Diploma in Aviation Safety from the University of Southern California.

Nuhu worked as a Line Captain and Flight Safety Officer at Aero Contractors of Nigeria Ltd before going on to work as a Chief Pilot at MRS Group/Petrowest Operations SA. He had also been a Technical Assistant at the Minister of Aviation in the past.

“The new DG was also the chairperson, Comprehensive Regional Aviation Safety Plan for Africa and Indian Ocean at the ICAO headquarters in Montreal, responsible for safety, air navigation, airports, and aviation infrastructure development,” the statement read.
