NFF Appoints Joseph Yobo As Super Eagles Assistant Coach

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed former Super Eagles’ defender and captain Joseph Yobo as Super Eagles assistant coach.

Yobo who replaces Salisu Yusuf, played for the super eagles more than hundred time, played and also played the african cup of nation in six tournaments.

Yobo was the first Nigerian player to reach 100 caps for the super eagles. in an interview said, ‘I didn’t really know what it was until I got close to it. Breaking the record and getting to reach 100 games is phenomenal. It’s very special to be the first player out of the many legends that we have in the country to be the first centurion; it’s no small feat. I give thanks to God, my family and fans for pushing me, even when the times were tough, to make sure I achieved it. It’s something very special that I’ll cherish forever.

The former super eagles defender and captain lifted the African nations cup trophy in 2013 during the reign of late stephen Keshi.

In his words, “The experience was great and I would say it’s something I wasn’t really looking towards but I was forced away.

on the current super eagles team, Yobo said ‘I think we have a good team with young players that got a lot of experience. Looking at the antecedents of the Super Eagles, we seem to have progressed and the present coach is doing a great job.

But what is more important is to remain focused and win our games, build on the confidence and try to get the best out of the team’.

As the super eagles look forward to qualify for the next tournament,  There are other teams who are contenders for the trophy but I also think Nigeria can win the trophy again.
