‘The Future Is Bright’ – Mrs Obiano Reassures Widows

The wife of the State Governor, Dr Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano says healthy living and welfare of all the widows in the state are top on the agenda of the present administration.


The Governor’s wife was speaking at a one day National workshop and seminar for the South – South and South East widows empowerment organised by Virtuous Widows Association held at the National Light Newspaper hall, Awka.

Represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, Mrs Hope Ekesiuba, Dr. Mrs. Obiano said the state government is more concerned about the vulnerable, widows, motherless and people with disabilities stating that through CAFE, she has built many houses and other empowerment for the widows.

Dr Mrs. Obiano called on women to be up and doing, fend for themselves, their children, be focused and dedicated to God , asking other NGO’s to join hands as government cannot do it alone .

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Health Insurance and Pensions Matters, Mr Dozie Okpalaugo, said the Governor’s wife has enrolled all the widows into State Insurance Scheme to ensure they live healthy, advising them to go for regular checks and access their drugs.

The Chairman on the occasion, Igwe Ben Emeka who is the traditional ruler of Umueri Community, said that widowhood is not a curse, that they should not worry about their condition as God will always be there for them, calling on the affluent to help in alleviating the plight of the widows.

In his remarks, the Managing Director and Chief Executive officer of the Anambra Newspapers and Printing Corporation, publishers of National Light Newspapers, Sir Chuka Nnabuife, disclosed that they chose to partner the association so as to contribute their quota in alleviating the plight of the widows, commending the founder for creating the association for the betterment of others.

In her welcome remarks, the founder of the association, Lady Ifeanyi Egbosiuba cautioned widows against begging or sleeping around for money urging them to engage themselves meaningfully.
