Peace corps Nnewi command today November 16, 2019, held its maiden youth peace summit at the Nnewi North Local Government secretariat hall with the theme: Achieving Sustainable peace in our community (Nnewi North)

Anambra State Commandant of Peace corp, Patriot Edeth Okoye has called on the youths of Anambra State to be agents of change, emphasizing the fact that youths are the pillars of every nation.

The state commander who was represented by the Deputy State Commandant, Patriot John Onyebuka stressed that peace is paramount for any society to strive. “Engage your minds positively. Be the good and better positive change”. Okoye pleaded.

Chairman of the occasion Rt. Hon. Prince Chikwudi Orizu, Chairman Nnewi North LGA, before declaring the event open, assured the youths of his constant support whenever he is called upon.

Hon. Orizu, who was ably represented by the Secretary of the LG, Mr. Echezona Anazodo commended Peace Corp for the initiative, stating that it is a welcome development.

He encouraged them to maintain the tempo which according to him will strengthen the youths of Nnewi. ‘Charity begins at home and it gives me joy seeing youths coming together.’ The only thing we need to pursue in life is peace. Without peace, there is no progress”.

Commander, Nnewi North Peace Corps of Nigeria, Nnadi Emmanuel Ndubueze in his speech, urged young minds to seek for lasting and sustainable peace. “The Youths are the future of tomorrow. Let us always seek for peace, it will determine if we will achieve the peace we want.

”Peace is a necessity and is urgently needed. There is a need for cordiality and relationship among us. Starting from our families, down to our endeavor and where ever we find ourselves, let us try to be an agent of peace. We are the instruments that will bring about positive change.

Chief Orientation Officer Nnewi North, Mrs. Ijeoma Akabueze in her address, advised citizens to stop open defecation. She frowned at the attitude of those who intentionally defecate on roadsides, bushes, gutters, and open areas noting that many of the hazards being suffered are caused by open defecation.

The event attracted youths of the Nnewi community and students of various secondary schools like Akaboezem Community Secondary School, Okongwu Memorial Grammer School, Nnewi High school, Immaculate Model Secondary School and Community Secondary School Nnewinchi.
