Nigeria Police Public Relations Officers Workshop Opens in Anambra.

In a bid to equip the Public Relations Officers of the Nigeria Police Force for improved image management and information dissemination, the Force has opened a 4-Day intensive capacity building workshop for her Public Relations Officers throughout the federation.

The capacity building workshop which opened today, Tuesday, 8th September 2019, at Golden Tulip, Agulu Lake Hotel, Agulu, had the presence of the Executive Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Chief Dr. Willie Obiano.

Declaring the workshop open, the Executive Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Chief Dr. Willie Obiano, welcomed the Police Public Relations Officers in Nigeria, to Anambra state which he said has been adjudged as the safest state in Nigeria.

According to the Governor, his administration’s commitment towards ensuring the safety of the lives and properties of the citizens has attracted and influenced massive development in the state. He said that security is the first enabler out of the 12 enablers which supports his Four pillars of development in the State

Speaking further, he said that the Nigeria Police Force is trying their best but needs to be supported with more funds, equipment, and training. He called on state governments across the federation, to support the Police, saying that his government has concluded plans to support the police in the state with more world-class equipment.

He encouraged them to enjoy the world-class facilities in the hotel and the serenity in the state.

Speaking also, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, who was represented by Assistant-Inspector General of Police, Baba Tijjani, said that the workshop was part of his administration’s commitment towards enhancing the capacity of officers whose primary responsibility is to manage the image and information dissemination process which will reposition the Nigeria Police and change the uninformed perceptions and faulty narratives about the Nigeria Police Force.

According to him, certain indiscretions and perceived inactions by some personnel of the force as well as the security challenges in some parts of the country impact negatively on the image of the Force, hence the need to continually equip the Police Relations Officers with necessary skills and knowledge to effectively engage the public and also manage the image and perceptions about the Force.

Speaking to journalists after the opening ceremony, the Public Relation Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, Mr. Frank Mba, said that the training was predicated on the need for Police image markers and spokespersons to be aware with the best practices in the job they do.

He noted that the New Media which is now the major means of communication will be leveraged on by the Nigeria Police Force, he said that the workshop will have the presence of many resource persons who will contribute immensely to the actualization of the workshop.

The opening ceremony had in attendance the Police Public Relations Officers from the 36 States of the Federation, the FCT, 12 Zonal Police Public Relations Officers as well as Staff Officers of the Force Public
Relations Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
