JUBILATION IN ANAMBRA AS YOUTH FORUM EMPOWERS 200 YOUTHS

There was jubilation in Ogidi, a suburb of Onitsha, Anambra State, on Friday, when a youth group, West African Youth Support and Development Forum, WAYSDF, empowered many youths of Nigeria resident in Anambra State, with money and other items to help them support their businesses and develop themselves.

While a majority of the youths received cash assistance, others were empowered with tools to help them become self-reliant.

Presenting cheques and other items to benefiting youths, the President of WAYSDF, Mr Afam Akonanya (Esq.), said the gesture was in line with the aims and objectives for which organization is formed.

The youth forum, which, according to Akonanya, is a non governmental organization, is formed to empower West African Youths through education, engagement in community development, sports, among other things; adding that the vision is to ensure that West African youths become empowered leaders with skills and confidence to actively develop self, family.

He said that the largesse was to support the selected youths in their chosen vocations.

“West African Youth Support and Development Forum is an NGO established to support and empower youths as a way of affecting their lives positively. African youths travel overseas in search of greener pastures because of the dearth of opportunities in Africa. What we’re striving to achieve is to support the African youth, empower him and help him to love Africa, live Africa and contribute to the development of Africa.

While handing over cheques and other empowerment tools to the youths in the presence of His Excellency, Amb. Emmanuel S. Williams, Chairperson, ECOWAS Youth Council; Amb. Epah Pablo, Deputy Secretary, ECOWAS Youth Council; as well as members and executives of WAYSDF, Akonanya challenged the beneficiaries to convert the gifts to tools that would transform their lives and place them to the part of greatness.

Among the beneficiaries were one Abubakar Abdulrazak Rashidi, who was supported with a cheque of N150,000; one Mbaegbu Chidimma Deborah, who was given a cheque of N30,000; and one Orji Anita Obianuju, who was also supported with shoe/sandal filing machine; among other beneficiaries.

In his remarks, H/E, Amb. Emmanuel Seun Williams, the chairperson, ECOWAS Youth Council, commended the WAYSDF led by Barr. Afam Akonanya for his noble vision for the African youth.

Amb. Williams, who was at the occasion primarily to issue a certificate of affiliation to the WAYSDF, noted that the ECOWAS Youth Council was desirous of partnering WAYSDF because of the latter’s strides in empowering and developing young Africans through technological entrepreneurship, sports, health, scholarship, job placement, etc.
